Air Methods is seeking exceptional pilots to join our team as a Rotor Wing Pilot for UMASS Memorial Health Life Flight in Fitchburg, MA. This EMS air medical role operates the EC135 (VFR) aircraft, providing critical transport to communities 24/7 with a focus on safety and work-life balance.

Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting thorough pre-flight inspections, verifying airworthiness, and performing detailed flight planning on short notice. As the final authority for aircraft operations, you ensure the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment while coordinating closely with the medical flight team.

Requirements

Responsible for ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patients
Compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), and General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM)
Thorough knowledge of Air Methods policies and procedures
Ability to conduct detailed flight planning under tight timeframes
Must be thoroughly familiar with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft
Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter Instrument Rating (or equivalent)
Valid FAA Class 2 Medical Certificate (Class 1 preferred)

Responsibilities

Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner
Complete pre-flight inspections before every flight, verifying aircraft airworthiness via sign-off of Daily Flight Log
Serve as final authority for aircraft operations and safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment
Ensure thorough familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized in the operational area
Complete required documentation accurately and promptly
Conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards
Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach
Maintain regular scheduled attendance on a 7 days on/7 days off schedule (12-hour shifts)
