You’re responsible for safely operating our fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft while delivering friendly, reliable service our Customers know and love.

First Officers play a vital role in keeping our operation running smoothly and efficiently. They directly impact the travel experience of millions of Customers while embodying the Southwest spirit in every flight. Southwest offers one of the most flexible scheduling policies in the industry.

All Pilots work in a highly organized environment demanding close coordination and teamwork with the Captain, Flight Attendants, Dispatcher, and Ground Personnel. They provide friendly service and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external Customers. They work in a cooperative spirit to ensure the success of our Company.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S.; no sponsorship available
  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate
  • FAA First Class Medical Certificate
  • Qualified to safely operate Boeing 737 aircraft
  • Compliance with 14 CFR 121 drug and alcohol testing requirements for safety-sensitive functions
  • No prohibited drugs in system per 14 CFR 121 Appendix I

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly service to and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external Customers
  • Work in a cooperative spirit to ensure the success of our Company
  • Work with close coordination and teamwork with the Captain, Flight Attendants, Dispatcher and all Ground Personnel
  • Comply with all regulations and directives pertaining to the conduct of the flight in a manner suitable to the Captain
  • Operate in accordance with Southwest Airlines FAA Approved and FAA Accepted manuals, Operations Specifications, 14 CFRs, and FAA Orders
  • Submit reports on irregularities or incidents, as required
  • Immediately notify the Base Chief Pilot or Assistant Base Chief Pilot of any discrepancy or incident that may affect performance
  • Comply with the Company's Policies on a Drug-Free Workplace and Alcohol Misuse
