Salt River Project (SRP) is one of the largest public power and water utilities in the U.S., serving one million customers in the Phoenix area. A Senior Helicopter Pilot provides expert rotor-wing flight operations, piloting the fleet and handling non-flying duties. The role requires extensive helicopter experience and quick learning of new aviation skills.
Serve as Pilot-In-Command for SRP's Bell 429, Bell 212, and Bell 412 helicopters. Fly diverse missions like powerline patrol, wildlife surveys, water measurement, and VIP transport. Operate across complex Phoenix airspace and remote Arizona mountains and deserts.
Perform takeoffs and landings from urban helipads, pinnacles, confined areas, and unprepared zones. Handle high-density altitudes, brownout conditions, day, night, and Night Vision Goggles operations. Ground handle, load, and refuel helicopters as needed.
Work in an inclusive environment valuing diverse perspectives to deliver reliable power and water. Train non-flight SRP employees in helicopter safety and crew resource management. Contribute to the flight department's success through assigned non-flying tasks.
Requirements
- Extensive experience and knowledge in helicopter operations
- Ability to serve as Pilot-In-Command on multi-engine rotorcraft helicopters
- Proficiency operating in complex urban airspace and remote desert/mountain environments
- Experience with challenging takeoffs and landings in confined and unprepared areas
- Expertise handling high-density altitudes, brownouts, and whiteouts
- Qualified for day, night, and Night Vision Goggles (NVG) operations
- Knowledge of diverse utility missions including powerline patrol and wildlife surveys
- Ability to quickly learn new aviation skills
Responsibilities
- Serve as highly competent Pilot-In-Command (PIC) for SRP’s fleet of Bell 429, Bell 212, Bell 412 helicopters
- Fly diverse missions such as powerline patrol, construction, wildlife surveys, water measurement, snow surveys, and VIP transport
- Operate in complex Phoenix metro airspace and remote mountain and desert sites across Arizona
- Perform takeoffs and landings from urban helipads, pinnacles, confined areas, and unprepared landing zones
- Handle high-density altitudes, brown out/white out conditions, day, night, and Night Vision Goggles (NVG) operations
- Train non-flight department SRP employees in helicopter flight safety and crew resource management
- Ground handle, load, and refuel helicopters as needed
- Perform non-flying tasks assigned by the flight department manager
